April

Well people here we are, the last month of the season nearly over. I have been finished now for a week and am both enjoying the break and also missing the rivers.

April has been an OK month with some good dry fly action and also regular hits on the nymph. The fish seem to be sitting fairly still and not moving far for food, so you are needing to get your casts right over the top of them for them to eat. This of course adds a new dimension to your casting as you need to put your line right over the top without spooking them, (ya’ 18-20ft leaders)!

Anyway I am off to Russia in the next couple of weeks to work for Roxtons Group managing an Atlantic Salmon Lodge, on the way I am stopping off in the Florida Keys to chase some Tarpon with Guy Fullhart of Fishing Pursuits. Then after Russia I will be in Alaska for a while and back for next season.

See you all then!!!

To round off the season I have to mention the mighty John Gendall end of season party. This was my first so I was known as a virgin! Anyway well done Mr Gendall you puled off the party of the year!  All clients are welcome to come to this fantastic party and I am sure John would love to see you there!!

Happy fishing all and can’t wait to see you all next season!!

March

Hello to all, March has been a good month with a lot more dry fly action especially on the Motueka.

The weather has been exceptional with minimal rain and lots of sun. This has made the rivers low and clear, so your casting has to be accurate and your presentation good or the fish are spooking.

In saying that if you get it right they are still hungry and willing to eat.

We are running into the end of the season now and it will be interesting to see if we have a few more fish pushing up into the tributaries coming into April.

Tight lines to all, and keep on “fushing”
